What I'm missing.

想家 Homesickness is setting in bad. I want to overcome this. I'm doing the best I can, but I think I'm getting out less than I had before. The cycle of work, home, work, home is taking it's toll and I can't stop thinking about Miami. I'm not seeing Masa anymore. I'm lonely. Maybe the trip to Yunnan in summer will help.

Hi Ross, Leif shows an amazing resemblance to a young Mr. Magoo in that picture! I told Aunt Linda that last week. I am not surprised you are homesick since we all so wonderful and special in Miami!!! Everything here is pretty much the same except Leif. So when you remember Miami also remember how much you wanted to leave and see the world. Maybe it is not a bad thing to be lonely for a while-try to learn to be alone -not lonely. Pursue you art as you have been and open up to your own self, find comfort in your talent! Have you learned to play the harmonica yet? The harmonica can be quite a mournful little instrument -learn to play like a train-hopping Hobo!!! Playing music was always my best friend and can be very soothing and help rid you of angst! I have never been lonely playing guitar=alone.
all I know is time is flying and there doesn't seem to be enough of it....soon you will come home for Christmas and that is most likely the most anticipated happening of the year...
Keep your head up and you will see the same sky and sun we see in Miami...

Dear Ross,

I'm working on lesson plans for next year and I couldn't resist checking in. That food painting is amazing and I want it too!!! I think I'm going to have to fight others for it. Battle Royale?

It's always taken me at least a year to feel more at home after a big move, it's especially tough with distance and lack of $ or time to travel home.

Give yourself some time, Ross.
One of the best things I've found is to establish new little rituals-things you do daily- simple things like visiting a park or having tea in the same place each morning can help over the long run. Comfort can come with repetition...also doing things you enjoy but haven't done for a while can help you to feel a bit more like yourself. As your Mom wrote, you'll be able to visit here again soon- and think of how much you'll have to share when you do!

I'll miss you in NYC this summer but while I'm grabbing at flying kittens I'll think of you experiencing life fully and growing...you're hurting right now but you're giving yourself what you need by following your dreams...keep busy and hang in there kiddo.

Lots of Love,
Dadkle

p.s. Ira went nuts over the painting too.
p.p.s. You better mail me SOMETHING soon...

I deleted my last post for some reason..

That baby you miss is twice the size he was when you last saw him. He can crawl on his knees (a two day old innovation) rather then pull himself desperately across the floor on his stomach. He can stand up using the coffee table. Will send a video your way tonight.

Thanks everyone!

Marie - How're you? How is everyone? Of course it's okay to link to my blog; the more people the better. Joann can also e-mail me at rosscharris@gmail.com and I can give her some tips I wish someone would have given me before I got here.
