0.35
oil on canvas
40x40 cm

I've been drawing more than painting lately, but here is a recently completed painting that I'm quite happy with. It's from a grocery store advertisement for a sale on onions, garlic, carrots and cabbage.

It really is a good painting. Good striking design. Vegetables look just appropriately moldy and unsightly. Just enough of that. "Used"ful items begging to be presented to hot oil or stock. A great number too: "0 35" - a reasonable commodity price.

Makes me think of the way groceries and kitchens are stocked up. To me it is more about keeping a mental account of availible and possible foodstuffs more then simply a painting of a cataloged price in yuan. Although it is also just that.

Hm. Good!
